Later versions had a dull gray-black parkerized finish and anodizing. The hammer shroud could also be retrofitted on guns without it. Hammer Shroud I'll get back and confirm what I have about 7:00PM EDT tonight, but if memory serves me correct, mine is marked on the shroud's left side and Colt head faces forward. After over a year of me carrying it the Colt shows a little more wear, yet still looks great.
Colt agent 38 special hammer series#
The Colt Agent is the smallest Colt package of this series of concealed carry revolvers. The Colt Detective Special was first produced in 1927 and last produced in 1995. This attachment permitted the Cobra to be drawn from concealment without the hammer hanging up but still permitted it to be cocked for precise, single-action shooting if so desired. The Agent…well later they made the Agent as a cheaper model with a parkerized finish. The same Applegate who had the ear of some people at Colt. I added it to my gun list at my agency and qualified with it at the first opportunity. When the Agents were first made in 1955 the finish was exactly the same as the Cobra, it just had a shorter grip frame and grips, so it was a more concealable gun.

Buyer Tip: Seller assumes all responsibility for listing this item. It is the exposed ejector rod model and came with the factory hammer shroud with the rampant Colt on it. I like it so much I jumped on the opportunity to pick up another Agent, this time a parkerized second issue model, along with a factory rampant Colt stamped hammer shroud. Then all of a sudden Colt introduces a variant of the Cobra whose grip proportions bear a striking similarity to the Fitz special he carried. I find the gun with the shroud comfortable and easy to shoot with. love my first issue Agent… came with Tyler T grips (which seem unobtainable now)… snagged one at a very good price earlier this year – those kind of deals are over now! Kingston, NY 12401 Phone: 866.686.7424 Another modification has been made, this one to trigger geometry. As with all the "D" frame Colt revolvers, the Cobra was available on special order with the Colt hammer shroud installed. It certainly has a classic look, doesn’t it? I think mine is a 3rd series as well. If you use them to make a purchase, we will receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. The shroud covered the hammer and made the gun a snag-free gun that retained the ability to cock back the hammer and go at it single action. Details about Colt Detective Special, Cobra, Agent Revolver, D Frame Hammer Shroud W/ Screws See original listing. The I’m With ROSCOE Hammer Shroud is made for Colt D-Frame revolvers including the Detective Special, Agent and Cobra.

It quickly got a Tyler T grip and a replacement hammer with the spur bobbed to make it a bit easier on the draw. Then a new acquaintance offered me a sight-unseen unknown Colt revolver for a great price, and I jumped on the opportunity. The factory kits run WAY more than I paid for the Agent. My Colt Agent a couple of days before we mounted the shroud. Waller and Sons hammer shrouds are available for $35.00 each and checks should be made out to Rick Mastin. I still carry the Agent either in a bag or a pocket daily.
Colt agent 38 special hammer serial numbers#
I checked the serial numbers through the Sheriff’s Office and made sure the gun wasn’t stolen (it was that good a deal!) I’ll have to admit I fell prey to the arguments against them for years and slowly came around to both their effectiveness and their charms. Here was a very nice classic Colt Agent with most of the finish intact.
